The Government has also proposed an expansion of the Brisbane Waterworks' power grid that would eventually connect Brisbane and the northern beaches by way of the western suburbs, southern western suburbs and Brisbane city.

Construction would begin on that work when a $3.4 billion government bond issue is issued at the end of 2015.

The $4 billion BRT line will run at current passenger capacity with another $1 billion investment to be announced as part of the project.
