The Brisbane City Council has been advised this project is in the early stages of review and an alternative route for the Brisbane Rail project will be considered.

The $40 million project would connect South Brisbane to regional trains serving the north shore of the Great Barrier Reef.

This could happen, with some stations in South Brisbane being upgraded to become Regional trains, a project that would be funded by the NSW Department of Transport.

Premier Mike Baird has proposed the north shore rail corridor would be used to connect the CBD to North Sydney, with connections starting in South Brisbane and ending in the North Coast.

The Government has also proposed an expansion of the Brisbane Waterworks' power grid that would eventually connect Brisbane and the northern beaches by way of the western suburbs, southern western suburbs and Brisbane city.

Construction would begin on that work when a $3.4 billion government bond issue is issued at the end of 2015.

The $4 billion BRT line will run at current passenger capacity with another $1 billion investment to be announced as part of the project.
